Student at Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture

“I recommend giving the competition a try, regardless of your major. I’m studying to be an industrial and civil engineer myself, but that didn’t stop me from winning in 2019. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity.

The early stages tested the breadth of our development and our ability to think critically. The more specialized questions came at the end, but by then we could work as a team, where our coordinated effort made up for any gaps in knowledge.

The cherry on top, of course, were the trips to Boeing’s production facilities—a close-up, firsthand experience that you simply couldn’t get as a tourist, no matter how much money you spent.

Special thanks to the organizers for the diversity of the competition and the richness of the trip itself.”

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the St. Vladimir Charitable Foundation for this unique opportunity to visit Boeing’s main facilities and see the United States with my own eyes.

This competition is undoubtedly the best project in Ukraine that could have been conceived for students, both in terms of organization and the experiences gained. It’s a wonderful chance to test oneself not only in independent work but also in teamwork while solving interesting challenges.

Although the grand prize is aviation-themed, the competition is a nationwide festival of engineering talent, allowing not only aviation engineers but also various specialists unrelated to aviation to participate. This is undoubtedly an advantage of the project and increases every contestant’s chances of winning.

I wish all participants the best of luck!”

“I had only ever seen such exciting trips on YouTube channels and TV shows before, but in September 2018, I got much more than just a routine tour of the landmarks of a modern metropolis. It was a week of unique emotions and experiences that I will surely remember for the rest of my life. It all began with my registration for the All-Ukrainian Engineering Talent Competition “Future of Ukraine 2018,” which marked the start of my journey toward such a prestigious prize. The three stages of the competition proved to be an interesting and challenging test, but the effort expended was nothing compared to the enjoyment I derived from the trip to the wonderful city of Seattle. Our main goal there was to visit the Boeing Corporation’s factories: the “Boeing Everett Factory” and the “Boeing Renton Factory.”

Participating in the “Future of Ukraine” project of the St. Vladimir Charitable Foundation gave me a unique experience and left me with pleasant memories. I gained a serious boost of enthusiasm and confidence for my future development.”

“Just six months ago, I couldn’t have imagined that I’d soon be in the United States—and not just anywhere, but at the world’s two largest aircraft manufacturing plants, Boeing’s facilities in Everett and Renton, Washington. To say that this is practically a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me as an engineer is an understatement! I was lucky enough to see firsthand the assembly process for all modern Boeing aircraft—from one of the first 737 NG models in production to the 787 Dreamliner, which is considered the most fuel-efficient, modern, and advanced of all aircraft designed for commercial flights. To witness all of this and feel like a part of something important that affects all of humanity is an extraordinary, motivating, and thrilling experience. Thanks to this trip, I now know exactly what I’m striving for. In other words, such opportunities open your eyes and allow you to grasp the vast horizon of prospects for qualified engineers, and these prospects are entirely achievable provided the right efforts are made.”

“Overall, it was incredibly exciting! During the preliminary rounds last year, I wasn’t lucky enough to win this trip, so I did everything I could to make sure the same thing didn’t happen again. And it worked—my efforts weren’t in vain! I spent an unforgettable week in the States. Thanks to this trip, I became convinced that I’ve chosen a profession that opens up tremendous opportunities in life. It’s hard to describe just how many unique technical discoveries I made for myself, all during tours of the Boeing plants, where we spoke with employees and company executives. Just imagine: a single plant in Renton manufactures more than 50 B737 NG aircraft per month! And the plant in Everett designs the most modern wide-body 787 Dreamliner aircraft. We spent one day of our trip at the Museum of Flight and America’s Car Museum.

And we dedicated the last two days of our trip to a journey through Native American reservations to places with enchanting ocean views and natural beauty. There, we savored every moment on the ocean shore.”

"My Engineering Future" 2017

Kochina Kateryna

Student at Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture

“Just a few months ago, aircraft and aviation as a whole felt completely distant from my life. I imagined my future in architecture, programming, or something else — but definitely not in aircraft engineering. Even when it came to travel, I usually chose trains or buses.

But almost by chance, I decided to take part in the ‘My Engineering Future’ competition — and it’s a decision I will never regret. The following two months were filled with excitement beyond words.

And then, there we were — flying on a Boeing 737, the very aircraft whose production we would witness just two days later. We listened to an experienced engineer-guide (who, interestingly, had Ukrainian roots) while observing the process of assembling key parts of the fuselage, installing the wings, mounting the engines, and testing the landing gear.

We truly experienced the United States from the inside — through its food, traditions, and breathtaking nature: Mount Eve, the Pacific coastline, evening waterfalls, and the surrounding landscapes.

In addition to the Renton facility, we also visited Boeing’s production site in Everett. There, inside the world’s largest building by volume, we observed the manufacturing of the 747, 767, 777, and 787 aircraft. We compared different construction methods — stationary and assembly-line production — learned about the key technologies behind the Dreamliner, and even took a closer look at how the fuselage skin is attached to stringers made entirely of composite materials.

At the Museum of Flight, we had the opportunity to walk inside a Dreamliner cabin and compare it with other Boeing models on display.

For this ocean of positive emotions and unforgettable experiences, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Saint Volodymyr Charitable Foundation.

This journey sparked new ideas and inspired me to work harder and aim higher. And it all started with a single competition.”

“They say a picture is worth a thousand words — and it’s absolutely true. As winners of the ‘My Engineering Future’ competition, we had the opportunity to visit the cities of Renton and Everett, where Boeing’s aircraft manufacturing facilities are located. I was truly amazed by everything I saw.

I had the chance to see the ‘family’ of Boeing aircraft up close, including the short-haul 737 (and its modifications), as well as the long-haul 747-8, 777, and the 787 Dreamliner. I also learned many fascinating facts and stories about Boeing — how the aircraft got their names and the history behind models like the 717 and 727. Did you know that every two minutes a Boeing 727 takes off somewhere in the world? It’s one of the most widely used aircraft, and its fuselage diameter is approximately equal to the engine diameter of a Boeing 777.

The Boeing factory feels like a small мегаполіс of its own, full of life and activity. Everything is organized with incredible precision, like a Swiss watch. Everyone knows their role, and the engineers here are true professionals. Safety is the top priority — there are internal traffic rules, pedestrian pathways, and a culture of respect. People are polite, supportive, and always smiling.

We also visited the Museum of Flight, where aircraft from different eras are displayed — from the Wright brothers’ plane to the 787 Dreamliner. The museum even features a replica of William Boeing’s garage, where he built his first aircraft.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Saint Volodymyr Charitable Foundation for this incredible opportunity to visit a world-class aviation facility and truly experience the power and future of the aerospace industry.

There are many more exciting competitions ahead from the Saint Volodymyr Charitable Foundation — don’t miss your chance. Students, engineers, and aviation enthusiasts, your engineering knowledge, motivation for self-improvement, and drive for success will definitely take you far.”

“Boryspil Airport. I’m on a Boeing 737. Tomorrow, I’ll see firsthand how they’re built. Boeing is one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world. Boeing’s factories are impressive in their scale. They’re impeccably organized and well-run. My expectations of this aviation giant are being met: there are no limits to perfection. I must admit, I’ve gained tremendous motivation to study, grow in the engineering field, and change our country for the better. And the emotions and impressions I’ve gained in America will last a lifetime. As they say, I’ll have plenty to tell my grandchildren.

Thank you to the St. Vladimir Charitable Foundation for the opportunity to visit such massive factories, see the cities, culture, and wonderful places of the United States of America. It is precisely thanks to such projects that students can realize their future prospects, which motivates them to study and grow.

I wish the St. Vladimir Charitable Foundation continued success in bringing all its future projects to life. You are on the right path. Best of luck to you! Your plans will surely come to fruition.”

“This was an unforgettable journey in my life. I’m just overwhelmed with emotion! I saw so many new and interesting things that my head is spinning. First and foremost, I want to thank the St. Vladimir Charitable Foundation. This trip was very important and meaningful to me. I saw with my own eyes the opportunities for career advancement and professional growth. I can compare what I have now with what is entirely possible to achieve in the future if I keep moving forward and don’t give up. It’s very inspiring. None of this would have been possible without you:— a trip to the two largest Boeing Company plants in Everett and Renton, where we took tours of the aircraft assembly stages;

The Museum of Flight, with the most spectacular exhibition I have ever seen;

of course, Seattle itself, aglow with evening lights;

and American-style relaxation.

I gained a sea… and even an entire ocean (since I managed to visit there too) of unforgettable impressions.”
